Meet Jenny
My name is Jenny and I am a competitive country dancer, dance instructor, and token introvert.
Follow along as I dive into the realm of competitive country dancing, sharing insights on my experiences, competitions, and the ups and downs of life on and off the dance floor.
My journey as a competitive country dancer began in 2013 at The University of Texas in Austin, where I joined a student organization called Texas Ballroom. It was there that my first coach, Sherry Reynolds, introduced me to the community that I now consider my second family. Since then, there has been no looking back, as I dove head first into the world of country dance.
I have competed in both the American Country Dance Association (ACDA) and the United Country Western Dance Council (UCWDC). Starting as a newcomer dancer in the ACDA circuit with my first competitive instructor, Jim Weber, in 2014, I was immediately hooked. Being based in Austin, I made the decision to switch pros to avoid the long commute to Dallas for lessons. Under the guidance of Jake Greene, I undertook the challenging climb through each Pro-Am division - from Newcomer to Novice, Intermediate, and finally, Advanced - over the course of four incredible years. It was a wild ride, one that I am immensely proud of.
This remarkable journey led me to my next big adventure - teaching. In 2018, when Jake relocated to Austin Uptown Dance, I seized the opportunity to embark on teacher training. It marked a significant change for me, but I am grateful for the chance that presented itself. Teaching allowed me to grow as a dancer, giving me insight into a different side of dancing. My utmost goal while teaching is to see everyone succeed, grow, and most importantly, have fun! In 2019, I proudly became a full-fledged dance teacher. Presently, I work as a data manager while teaching part-time, compete with my students in the Pro-Am divisions in ACDA and UCWDC, and compete in the SuperStars Line and Mixed Role Masters divisions of the UCWDC.
